Half Moon is excited to announce our new DJ Mix Series with Apple Music. Starting the month of July 2023, we will be launching 9 mixes from NYC based DJs - all of whom are shaping the current music culture here in the city. Featuring: Dos Flakos, Riobamba, Dana Lu, EDEN, AQ, Zillion, Khalil, Snips and Marvelito- with genres from across the globe like House, Hip Hop, Reggaeton, Dancehall, Amapiano, Jungle and more!
All DJs selected will receive streaming royalties from their mixes, as well as every artist’s song that is played, which will be paid directly to them from Apple Music.
This series will platform an eclectic range of DJs as well as providing another financial avenue for them.
How it works:
Apple has made it super simple for DJs to distribute DJ Mixes to Apple Music, and for both the DJ and the rights holders to get paid. They created a process in cooperation with major and independent labels, whereby Apple identifies and directly pays the rights holders within a DJ Mix. As well, Apple has created a first of its kind fund to compensate DJs and Suppliers—clubs, festivals, promoters, curators, and independent compilation labels.
How does the DJ get paid?
- On a quarterly basis, Apple Music will calculate the number of royalty-bearing streams (>30s) each of the tracks across all the DJ’s mixes has had on Apple Music. Apple Music will use the total number of royalty-bearing streams to calculate the market share of the DJ and pay a pro-rata share (the percentage) of the DJ Pool.
- The DJ Pool for April 2022 - March 2023 is 2MM USD.
How do the Master Recordings in a DJ Mix get paid?
- For each royalty bearing play within a DJ Mix, Apple Music reports and pays the master recording’s Label or Distributor as if they had delivered the track.
